1906 JOE FELLOWS 42' -- YEBIS. Based on information provided, here's a short history: YEBIS was built in 1906 by Joe Fellows, which later became Fellows and Stewart, in Wilmington, CA, at a time when powerboats were still fairly rare. She was built for the Commodore of the Catalina Yacht Club who owned her for 50 years. Supposedly, the famous author of Western novels, Zane Grey, fished off her deck, and rumor has it that Ernest Hemingway may have, as well. She is a double ender (or canoe stern), built of fir planking on oak ribs with a mahogany cabin and teak decks. Her original two cylinder naptha fueled engine was replaced in 1950 with a gas 6 cylinder Gray Marine 330 with a 32" prop and a Borg Warner transmission with 5 to 1 reduction gear. The Gray Marine reportedly only has 11 hours on a rebuild and "looks brand new." YEBIS was restored in 1980 after being found abandoned and full of rainwater in Wilmington; she hadn't strayed far from her birthplace.

Lloyd L. is selling YEBIS on behalf of the boat's owner: "The owner has asked me to help find a buyer for her. He is ill and would like a responsible person who is willing to make a reasonable offer based on work already completed and current value. He has given me title and full control to scuttle the boat at the end of 3 months. I have pics and all paper work. I hate to see it scuttled. It is one of the oldest boats on the west coast. I had the pleasure of working on her and have replaced half of her ribs. If you want a classy vessel with bragging rights and looking very presidential with some great history, take a look this. I would really like to see her go to a good home. We are taking real offers on this rare vessel. If you are serious buyer and have wood working skills, make a realistic offer. The owner may take it." Located Napa, CA. Asking: "Taking Reasonable Offers." Contact Lloyd at ourboat@runbox.com
