1964 EVINRUDE SPORT 16' GULL WING

Matching Starflite 90.

Owner says, "You are looking at one of the few remaining fully operational Evinrude Sport-16's left in the Northeast. The Sport-16 features a "gull-wing" design, which rides on the large center V hull at speed, differentiating it from a "tri-hull" design. These boats were solidly built, roomy and stable. The Gull-Wing hulls were designed by Richard Cole, while Brooks Stevens designed the above water styling. It has more usable interior room than most contemporary 18 or 19 footers. This boat turns heads. It's like driving into a parking lot in an old T-Bird convertible. People love looking at it! It was even cool enough for James Bond. Publicity stills from the European release of "Thunderball" feature Sean Connery, Martine Beswick, and the Evinrude Sport-16. Not bad company!

I have owned this very collectable boat since 2004. In that time I have been working on the mechanics and cosmetics of the boat, acquiring various missing trim pieces and cleats along the way. What you see here is the result of the effort. The boat is about 99% original. I have cleaned and rebuilt various engine subsystems and re-timed it to the point where it idles perfectly in gear at about 600rpm. It starts easily (usually on the 1st crank), shifts flawlessly, and runs oh so smooooooothly. It even has functioning power tilt!

As far as the mechanics are concerned, the boat is solid. I use it roughly 3-5 times per week to go over to the various waterside establishments in the area, or just fold the cover off and take her out via Irondequoit Bay to Lake Ontario for a quick cruise to watch the sunset. The deck is fiberglass, so it can't rot, the transom is solid, and the hull is just about perfect. I also meticulously rolled on about 12 thin layers of barrier coat it when I first got her. Old fiberglass and gel coat tend to get a little porous over time and I leave her in the water - I didn't want any problems with osmotic blistering. The Outboard Marine Company (OMC) basically built everything on this boat - apparently they even spun their own fiberglass! The hardware is super heavy duty and their over-engineering in virtually every aspect of this boat is clear to see.

The boat comes on a trailer, and is fully equipped with the required USCG safety equipment, as well as lines, fenders, and an anchor. I also have the original bimini top aluminum frame (but not the canvas), as well as the original collapsible boarding ladder and removable bow lamp for night running, and a full mooring cover. Why am I selling this gem? Well, my needs have changed and I am looking for a small-ish cuddy cabin in the 22-24" range - and I am open to trades if you have one and are looking to downsize!

Please note:

(1.) I have a 2nd Starflite-90 engine that I will include for parts. Pickup, transportation, and delivery will be the responsibility of the Buyer. The Buyer is not obligated to take the engine if not wanted, but cannot "cherry pick". It's all or nothing with regard to the 2nd the engine.

(2.) I removed the spotlight shown in the photo when I was able to locate and install an original Evinrude cleat (the cleat was removed to make room for the light). The light was in non-functional condition anyway. I still have it and the buyer can take it as well, if requested.

(3.) The boat is in tucked away in a nice barn now and can be seen, but I will soon be getting her ready for the season.

Asking $4995.
