1955 D&M THISTLE 17'

Broker says:

"If you're not familiar with the Thistle, you're missing out! This is a performance daysailer which has a strict and large one-design racing class backing. The Thistle is a great light air boat, and will also take you for a wild ride when the wind comes up! It is a wonderfully balanced boat which is a dream to sail. This particular boat has been lovingly cared for and is ready to RACE! SHE IS A UNIQUE FIND - - A WOODIE !!

"She was built and delivered to Memphis 1955. The previous owner rebuilt her, relaunching in 1999. Then won the 2000 Central Southern Interdistricts.

"Hull skin, keelson, centerboard trunk separators, transom, athwartship slats of the aft grating, two narrow slats of the forward grating, and the two underseat supports on both sides are original. All other wood is new. Rails from Doug Laber, using the olds ones as patterns. Seats and centerboard trunk sides are ribbons stripe mahogany. The stanchions, mast step, grating underbraces, 45 braces, forward and aft grating skirts, forward edge seat supports, thwart, thwart knees, centerboard trunk cap, aft grating skirt, undersupports and center piece are all flamed maple. Everything was WEST epoxy coated prior to installation.

"Interior has a natural finish, WEST epoxy with five coats of Interlux Schooner Gold varnish (which needs a touch up). The exterior was epoxy coated, faired, 1 layer six oz. cloth, faired, two coats of Interlux VC performance epoxy, matte white finish which was then sanded 400 grit paper which allows for easy touch up.

"GMW mast (1999) and boom (2000), alum spin pole. Sails are North, Fisher cut, 12 regattas on main and jib, 4 on spin (blue w red and white panels). Comes with centerboard and rudder covers. Mast up cover is getting old... But a new Rooke Sails mast up cover is included!!!

"Fiberglass lead centerboard, with graphite powder epoxy finish and a trailing edge you can cut your hand on, and ball bearing skateboard wheels for rollers. The better rudder needs to have hardware reattached. There is a "secondary" rudder ready to use. Per class rules an 8 lb anchor/chain w 100 ft rode is included.

"The boat is ready to race competitively, although it is possible that the forward foam needs modification. It extends aft of the forward edge of the grating, and that part needs to be removed, it was done that way a long time ago. Rigging photos show a well thought out layout. Reverse purchase spin halyard.

"Trailer is included. It is an older model, but well maintained. Trailer bunks were made using the hull as a mold. This boat is light and can be trailered by a small car!

"Rooke Sails will be happy to assist in going through the rigging to make sure that this classic yet competitive Thistle is familiar to you and that all the rigging is serviceable. We also offer for the new sailor the option of sailing instruction. So, what are you waiting for??? Gas may be closing in on $5.00/gallon, but the wind is still FREE!!!  IT'S YOUR MOVE!!!"

Asking $5900. Contact Chris at 901-744-8500 or 866-590-9207. Memphis, TN
